How long do ashes into glass take?

The process of turning ashes into glass can take up 10 days from receipt of the ashes. The process of hand blowing the glass is done within one day, with another day used for the annealing process, and then added time for the finishing of the memorial. It involves several stages which includes, gathering the glass, adding the ashes, gathering clear glass over the top and then shaping and sculpting the design. The final memorial piece can be a range of shapes and designs from candle holders to paperweights and animal figurines.

Once you place an order, you will send us just one tablespoon of Ashes.

You send us the ashes and upon receipt of the ashes we will begin working our magic in turning the ashes into beautiful glass art. Our glass blowing a timeframe from receipt of ashes is 5-10 days, where the industry average is 6 weeks.

Once the ashes have been entwined in the glass we will return the glass ashes memorial alongside any remaining ashes. Leaving you to cherish the ashes glass memorial forever.

The technical side of Ashes Memorials

The process of putting Ashes into glass art is extremely technical and requires years of experience in the art of glassblowing.

In every day glassblowing, if when creating a product the artist fails, there is a financial and time associated cost.

However with cremation ashes keepsakes, there is an added potential of losing the loved one's ashes if the artist were to fail in the creation of the memorial. Because of this we only produce memorial sculptures which we have perfected over 25 years of glass blowing.

How much does it cost to turn Ashes into Glass?

Turning ashes into glass involves a variety of costs associated to the manufacturing process. However customers can purchase ashes keepsakes, starting from £170. Below we will discuss the costs.

Firstly there is the time and development of the skills to produce ash in glass, developing these skills over 25 years. A beginner glass artist should not and would not be given the responsibility to create ashes memorial glass, due to the importance and sentimental nature of the ashes.

Then there are the running costs of the studio/factory, having a lot of expensive and dangerous equipment, with glory hole temperatures rising up to 1300°C. Purchasing the glass and then melting the glass in the correct procedure in the furnace, in order to produce the premium glass we use.

Finally there is the one-off nature of the ash to glass. Whereas a standard wine glass can be mass manufactured, glass ashes memorials are made as one of bespoke products, due to the strict production line control in order to avoid mixing of ashes.

As with any manufacturing process, creating one-off bespoke products is more costly than mass production.
